KUALA LUMPUR: Rohingya refugees in Malaysia are hoping that the outcome of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) emergency meeting Thursday will put an end to the oppression faced by them back in Myanmar.

A small group of Rohingya activists were spotted outside the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here as the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held an extraordinary session on the Rohingya situation.

Human rights activist Ziaur Rahman, 23, said that no action had been taken even though violence against the Rohingya was well-known.

"We hope that the OIC and all the ministers worldwide can help my people. My people are dying," said Ziaur.

"There are more than 56,000 Rohingya refugees in Malaysia," said Ziaur.

He added that he had been a refugee in three countries without refugee rights.Meanwhile, Rohingya Ulama Council Malaysia president Jaber Mohd Subhan hoped that the OIC member countries could come up with a resolution or final decision for the Rohingya.
"Rohingya Muslims are the indigenous people of Myanmar, but we are denied citizenship and rights by the regime. We want the whole world to tell Myanmar to stop the cruelty and violence," he said.
